$2.5 Million Worth of Illegal Cannabis Seized in New York

Authorities in New York have seized hundreds of cannabis packages worth approximately $2.5 million in Queens, highlighting ongoing issues with illegal cannabis entering the state despite legalized sales. Six individuals have been charged in connection with the operation.

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz stated that thousands of pounds of cannabis were being transported illegally from California to Queens. The investigation involved raids on two trucks and two storage facilities in Maspeth and Long Island City. The seized products, if sold legally, would have generated significant revenue for the state.

Katz emphasized that illegally sold THC products can harm the community, and that legitimate cannabis retailers must comply with strict state licensing regulations. The operation was conducted with support from the New York City Sheriff’s Office, NYPD, and the DEA’s intelligence and crime strategy teams.

“These unregulated products will not reach New Yorkers,” Katz said. “Our top priority is keeping our city safe.”

Local reports indicate that cannabis use is visible in subway stations and along streets in Queens, causing odor issues and public nuisance, as well as creating obstacles for pedestrians.
