Muslim Democratic Congresswomen Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib Re-elected in US Midterm Elections
Democratic Congresswomen Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, two prominent critics of US support for Israel, have won re-election in the 2026 US midterm elections.
Omar secured another term representing Minnesota, despite facing scrutiny over her immigration-related records. Federal agents searched her home about three weeks before the election as part of an investigation. Omar has denied the allegations and accused the Trump administration of politically targeting her.
Meanwhile, Tlaib, the first Palestinian-American woman elected to the US Congress, won a fifth term representing Michigan.
Both lawmakers have called for an end to US military assistance to Israel and accused the Israeli government of committing genocide in Gaza.
Their re-election comes amid a major political shift in Washington, with Democrats making significant gains in the midterm elections and securing control of both chambers of Congress, according to election projections.
At the time of the report, vote counts showed Democrats leading in 206 House races, compared with 119 victories for Republicans, with several contests still unresolved.
The results underscore the continued support for the two progressive Democratic lawmakers in their respective congressional districts.
