A 33-year-old Bangladeshi man, Mohammad Hachibur Rahman, has been charged with unlawfully voting in the 2024 US election despite allegedly knowing that he was not a US citizen, according to the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland.

The charges were announced Tuesday, October 27. Court documents allege that Rahman cast a ballot in the November 2024 election, in which Americans voted for president, vice president and members of Congress.

US Attorney Kelly O. Hayes and Jimmy Paul, a Federal Bureau of Investigation official in Baltimore, announced the case. The FBI and the Washington office of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement assisted with the investigation.

If convicted, Rahman could face up to one year in prison. However, the charge is an allegation, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Assistant US Attorney Philip Motz is prosecuting the case.
