Violent crime in the United States fell significantly in 2025 compared with 2024, with nonfatal violent crime declining by 25%, according to a White House statement citing data from the Justice Department’s National Crime Victimization Survey.

In a press release issued Tuesday, October 27, the White House described the decline as the largest single-year drop in violent crime in the survey’s history.

The statement reported that serious assaults fell by 31%, robbery by 27%, burglary and trespassing by 25%, and motor vehicle theft by 30%. Property crime also declined by 19%.

The White House attributed the decreases to President Donald Trump’s law enforcement policies, border controls, deportation of undocumented immigrants and measures targeting drug trafficking. It also criticized Democratic policies on bail, border management and immigration.

However, the figures and explanations were presented by the White House. The release did not provide a detailed analysis separating the effects of individual administration policies from other factors that may have contributed to the decline.
