Emergency Curfew Imposed in Long Branch, New Jersey After Chaos at Pier Village; 6 Arrested

In the coastal city of Long Branch, local authorities imposed an emergency curfew after large-scale disorder broke out at the popular tourist hotspot Pier Village, following what officials described as an “unplanned pop-up gathering” involving hundreds of teenagers.

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening (May 19, 2026), when several hundred teenagers and young adults gathered at the beachfront area after a social media call for an informal meetup went viral. As the evening progressed, the crowd reportedly became uncontrollable, with multiple altercations, disturbances near shops, and disruptive behavior including individuals climbing onto police vehicles.

To restore order, approximately 140 officers from various divisions of Monmouth County were deployed to the scene. In response to escalating tensions, the city administration and police department declared an emergency situation and imposed a curfew starting at 8:00 PM.

Authorities used public address systems to instruct visitors and residents to leave the area immediately. By around 9:15 PM, police had fully cleared the beachfront zone.

According to the Long Branch Police Department, a total of six individuals were arrested in connection with the unrest—four minors and two adults—on charges related to disorderly conduct and failure to comply with police instructions.

Officials confirmed that the situation is now under control. However, with the Memorial Day weekend approaching, enhanced security measures have been introduced across coastal areas, and visitors have been urged to remain cautious.

The incident has raised renewed concerns in the region about large-scale unsanctioned social media gatherings and crowd control during peak tourist periods.
