7 January, 2026, 7:38 am

Citizens of Bangladesh and 25 other countries will be required to post a bond of up to $15,000 before entering the United States. The new measure, announced by the U.S. Department of State on January 6, 2026, will apply to certain visa applicants.

Along with Bangladesh, the list includes Nepal, Bhutan, and several countries from Africa and Latin America. Eligible passport holders may apply for B-1 (business) or B-2 (tourist) visas, but will need to provide a bond of $5,000, $10,000, or $15,000, as determined during their visa interview.

The Department of State said the new rule will take effect from January 21, 2026.
