Actress Wendy Davis Dies After Being Hit by Car in New York City

Actress Wendy Davis has died after being struck by a car while crossing a street in Midtown Manhattan, New York police have confirmed. The 60-year-old suffered critical injuries in the incident and later died in hospital.

The collision took place at around 9:00 pm on Monday, December 8, at the intersection of Broadway and West 53rd Street. According to police, Davis was crossing the road when she was hit by a black 2023 Cadillac travelling westbound. She was reportedly in the crosswalk at the time of the accident.

Emergency services rushed Davis to Mount Sinai West Hospital, where she was treated for severe head and bodily injuries. Despite medical efforts, she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The 61-year-old driver remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. No charges have been filed at this stage, and an investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing.

Davis, also known professionally as Wenne Alton Davis, lived in Forest Hills, Queens. She was best known for her appearances in film and television, including a role as a police officer in the award-winning Amazon Prime series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Her acting credits also included the 2011 film Shame, starring Michael Fassbender, and the short film Ladies Room.

Friends and neighbours described Davis as warm and dedicated to her craft. One neighbour told local media that he had spoken with her shortly before the accident, recalling her final words as deeply moving in hindsight.

She was reportedly on her way to meet a friend for dinner and a movie near Rockefeller Center when the incident occurred. Her sudden death has prompted an outpouring of grief from those who knew her and from members of the entertainment community.

The tragedy has once again drawn attention to pedestrian safety in New York City, where traffic-related incidents remain a serious concern.
