Former President Donald Trump has publicly dismissed the idea of running as vice president in the 2028 election, calling the notion “too cute” for American voters. Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump clarified that he will not pursue a VP bid, putting to rest speculation about a potential workaround to seek a third presidential term.

Trump instead highlighted JD Vance, his former vice president, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as promising future leaders. He described both as “great people” and suggested that together they would form a formidable team, signaling a likely influence on the Republican Party’s 2028 strategy.

Legal experts note that the 22nd Amendment prohibits any individual from being elected president more than twice, making a third Trump term impossible. While some supporters floated a complex VP workaround, it was widely regarded as legally unfeasible.

With the 2028 Republican field beginning to take shape, Trump’s endorsements are expected to carry significant weight in shaping the party’s future leadership and presidential candidates.
