Families in the United States with children up to the age of 16 will benefit from an increased child tax credit under President Donald Trump’s newly passed “Big, Beautiful Bill”.
Under the legislation, each qualifying child will be eligible for a $2,200 tax credit, up from the previous $2,000 level. The credit is also inflation-adjusted.
Parviz Kazi, CEO of Kakatuwa Tax Services and an IRS-enrolled agent, explained that the credit was initially set at $1,000 per child under the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, later increased to $2,000, and in some cases up to $2,500–$3,000 depending on child age and circumstances.
He added that the 2025 legislation prevents the credit from dropping to $1,000, ensuring families continue to receive enhanced support. The benefit phases out for single filers earning above $200,000 and married couples filing jointly earning over $400,000.
“This increase ensures that families with children under 16 will directly benefit from the bill,” Kazi said. “With the inflation adjustment, the enhanced child tax credit will continue to support households across the country.”
