40th FOBANA Conference to Be Held in Toronto from September 4
The 40th FOBANA Conference, one of the largest cultural gatherings of Bangladeshi expatriates in North America, will be held in Toronto, Canada, from September 4 to 6.
Details of the three-day event were announced at a press conference held at Sanai Restaurant in Jackson Heights, New York. Gias Ahmed, chairman of the 40th FOBANA Steering Committee, presented the written statement.
Organizers said the conference will take place at the Don Valley Hotel and Suites in Toronto. Artists, business leaders, politicians and prominent figures from the United States, Canada and Bangladesh are expected to attend. Organizers anticipate around 40,000 visitors during the three-day event.
FOBANA aims to promote the cultural identity of Bangladeshis living in North America while strengthening their participation in business, social activities and community affairs. The organization operates as a non-profit and non-political platform seeking to build stronger connections among Bangladeshi expatriates.
This year’s conference will place particular emphasis on engaging the younger generation. Organizers also plan to discuss ways to increase the participation and representation of Bangladeshi Americans and Canadians in mainstream politics across North America.
Several prominent individuals are also expected to be honored as part of the 40th edition of the conference.
The press conference was moderated by Firoz Ahmed, general secretary of the FOBANA Steering Committee. Former FOBANA chairman Shahnawaz, Dr. Abu Zubayer Dara, chief adviser of the Bangladesh Society of Canada, former chairman Ali Imam Shikder, Joint Secretary Shahabuddin Sagar and other officials involved with the 40th FOBANA Conference also spoke at the event.
